What This Hatch Cover Is Used For
This deck plate is designed to seal and protect access openings on boat decks, hulls, and storage compartments. It covers inspection ports for bilge areas, fuel tanks, wiring runs, and live wells. It also serves as a clean finishing cover for any round cutout where you need a watertight, flush-mounted seal that holds up to constant foot traffic and weather exposure.
The Problem It Solves
Standard plastic hatch covers crack under load, warp in UV heat, and leak at the edges after a season or two. Once a cover fails, water gets into storage compartments, electrical runs corrode, and the deck surface around the opening starts to degrade. Replacing a failed hatch mid-season is inconvenient and costly. This cover is built from PP reinforced with 10% glass fiber, which gives it the rigidity to handle deck loads without flexing and the UV stability to resist surface degradation year after year. The screw-mount design creates a consistent, even seal around the full perimeter, eliminating the gap leakage that press-fit covers develop over time.
Why the Material Matters
PP+10GF (polypropylene with 10% glass fiber reinforcement) is significantly stiffer and more impact-resistant than standard ABS or plain PP. It does not yellow or become brittle under prolonged UV exposure. It is chemically resistant to fuel, bilge water, and cleaning agents. The result is a cover that maintains its shape, color, and sealing performance across multiple seasons without needing replacement.
Note: Measurements may vary by 1mm. Verify your existing cutout diameter before ordering. Marine sealant recommended around the mounting flange for a fully watertight installation.
